How to Replace a Volvo Replacement Key Fob

Your Volvo key fob can do more than simply unlock and lock your vehicle. It's also a sophisticated anti-theft device that has a special technology that communicates with your vehicle to help in preventing theft.

But what happens when the battery in your key fob dies? Volvo Cars Mission Viejo's team have all the answers.

How to Unlock your Vehicle

Modern electronic key fobs provide greater functionality and comfort compared to traditional manual keys. Batteries will eventually get worn out and need to be changed. If your Volvo keyfob is working only intermittently, the battery could be failing and you'll require replacement soon.

You can replace the Volvo key fob batteries yourself by following a few easy steps. First, locate a clear working surface to complete the procedure. Then, lay out all the tools you'll need. Find the battery's hole, and turn it open using a flathead, a coin, or a similar tool. Then, carefully remove the battery out of its socket by lifting it up on the side that is closest to the key-ring loop. Make sure that you use rubber gloves to avoid damaging the clips or electronic contact surfaces.

After the battery is removed, place the new battery into its socket. Ensure that the positive side of the battery is facing upwards and the clips are all seated. Then slide the cover downwards and towards the key-ring loop until it loosens and falls off. Then, lift the cover and reveal the key blade inside. It can be used to unlock your vehicle from the driver's side door when the battery of your key fob is dead or gone.

How to Start Your Vehicle

The majority of modern vehicles come with key fobs that can do more than simply unlock or lock the doors. They can also perform other functions such as summoning or auto parking the vehicle. In fact, the latest Volvo XC60 can even remotely start the engine using key fob buttons. But what exactly is it that works?

First, locate a clean, flat surface where you can lay out all the necessary items for this project. Then lay the fob on the work surface with its Volvo logo facing upwards. Use a flathead or coin, or other similar tool to flip open the battery hatch. Avoid touching the electronic contact surfaces with your tools.  volvo key fob replacement  can cause the fob to stop working properly.

Once the hatch is opened, slide the battery into its socket. Make sure the positive (+ side) is facing up. After the clips are secured into place, replace cover of the battery and then reassemble the fob.

By pressing the unlock button only one time and the alarm will disengaged and the driver's door will be unlocked. Pressing it again will unlock all doors as well as the tailgate. The unlock button is useful for opening the windows to let in cool, fresh air on a hot summer day. And if you're looking for more, the key fob can also be used to activate the ERS system, which will begin the system for controlling your vehicle's temperature and allow it to cool or warm it to the desired temperature settings when the vehicle is in a parking spot.

How do I change the battery?

If your key fob no longer locks or unlocks your car it may be time to replace the battery. The battery can be changed with a flathead screwdriver, pry bar made of plastic, or other small tools. Find the small slot used to house the backup/emergency key fob made of metal. Insert the blade of your screwdriver or pry bar tool into this slot and gently pry open the rear of the fob of the key. Once the fob has been opened find the CR2032 battery and take it off. Replace the battery and snap back to the fob.

Note: Certain older Volvo models have an entirely different type of battery, the CR2025. CR2025 batteries are 7 tenths of a millimeter less than a CR2032 battery, and you must be cautious about the placement of the replacement.
